Redrow confirms range of 163 homes coming to New Lubbesthorpe
08/07/2019
Redrow Homes East Midlands have applied for planning permission from Blaby District Council for the construction of 163 one-to-four-bedroom homes including apartments, townhouses and detached properties, 32 of which will be allocated for affordable housing.
The land sale marks an important milestone in New Lubbesthorpe’s development as it will introduce a broader selection of homes to the urban community, which currently consists of 300 properties provided by Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and Davidsons Homes. The sale has also enabled the repayment of a loan from Homes England taken out in order to help start the development infrastructure, expenditure for which currently totals just under £40m.
Situated between Leicester Forest East and Enderby, New Lubbesthorpe is within easy reach of supermarkets, leisure centres and local shops, as well as Meridian Leisure Park and Fosse Retail Park. The development will form part of a vibrant, emerging community, with a new business area at Leicester Commercial Park and a business village near the new M1 bridge. Two primary schools, one open for intake from September 2019, and a secondary school will also be built.
ArrivaClick, a bespoke, demand-responsive transport (DRT) service, launched for New Lubbesthorpe in April and is already proving a popular means of public transport amongst residents. It is the first DRT scheme to serve a new, sustainable urban development in the UK.
New Lubbesthorpe won Infrastructure Project of the Year at the 2018 Procon Awards, as well as the Housing Initiative Award at the LGC Awards in March 2019. The development was also shortlisted for Large Residential Development of the Year at this month’s Midlands Residential Property Awards.
Andrew Noton, Divisional Land Director at Redrow Homes, commented: “We are thrilled to announce we are building homes in New Lubbesthorpe, which is set to be a thriving new community in Leicestershire. This development will offer the best of both worlds, complete with vibrant urban amenities, in a rich rural setting and brilliantly well-connected to the surrounding areas. “This is our fourth development in Leicestershire and it’s wonderful to be building homes in what is set to be a fantastic new community for the people of the county.”
Ian Cockerill, Communications Officer at Blaby District Council, said: “Redrow Homes’ land purchase is a fantastic example of collaboration between the public and private sectors in the East Midlands. The new homes will help to expand what is already a thriving urban development, delivering a significant number of much-needed new homes in Leicester.”
Martin Ward, Director at Mather Jamie(Pictured), concluded: “On behalf of our clients, the Drummond Estate, we are delighted to confirm the completion of this residential development land sale to Redrow Homes. Once complete, the range of new homes will offer affordable and conveniently located housing that is ideal for first-time buyers, families and those looking to downsize. We look forward to seeing this phase of New Lubbesthorpe’s development come to fruition.”
Construction is due to commence in October, with the first Redrow homes available at New Lubbesthorpe from Spring 2020. To register your interest now, please visit www.myredrow.redrow.co.uk.
