Mather Jamie Director Amy Biddell was delighted to receive an invitation to be part of a delegation to meet the Right Honourable Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, when he visited the region recently.

The event was arranged by Alberto Costa, who is the Conservative MP for South Leicestershire who as part of the tour invited the Rt Hon Michael Gove to visit the award-winning New Lubbesthorpe development as a prime example of a how a sustainable urban expansion can be successfully delivered.   First given planning permission in 2014, New Lubbesthorpe has become a thriving community with sustainability driving every aspect of development and has already won five national awards.

Mather Jamie has managed the Drummond Estate for over 35 years and has led the development project at New Lubbesthorpe from its inception, managing and appointing the expertise required to deliver the necessary on-site infrastructure, as well as negotiating the sale of land parcels to preferred developers.

Working in partnership with Shakespeare Martineau’s Leicester office to deliver the project on behalf of the Drummond Trust, we have helped to bring the sustainable urban development of New Lubbesthorpe, from concept to reality working with the local authorities and developers to provide 4,250 new homes, an employment park capable of creating 1,000 jobs, two primary schools, secondary school, district and local centres, health facilities and 325 acres of new parklands for residents to enjoy.  New roads, including a road bridge spanning the M1 has been built linking Meridian Way to Beggars Lane, sustainable urban drainage and pumping stations have been installed, and an on-demand bus service and Enterprise Car Club scheme provide sustainable transport options.

The Secretary of State said: "We want beautiful, well-designed and greener neighbourhoods and the community I’ve seen in New Lubbesthorpe is something we wish to replicate right across the country. By modernising the planning system, our reforms will create more places people are proud to call home."

Alberto Costa, said: "I was delighted to welcome the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to visit the award-winning New Lubbesthorpe development. Blaby District Council has done fantastic work over the last few years in overseeing this flagship development and the growth of a brand-new community in New Lubbesthorpe."
