Cashing in on drive for charity

The next activity that we hope will get Mather Jamie over the finishing line of our commitment to raise £30,000 in our 30th anniversary year involves ‘bangers and cash’.

Four team captains have selected their pit crew and are about to buy a £500 banger to embark on a challenge to drive to Wells-Next-to -the-sea in Norfolk.

Setting off on Saturday 2 October, the five teams will plot a route to their destination hoping to set the fastest time, raise the most money – and above all – hope their banger cars avoid breaking down on the way! They will stay for fish and chips on the jetty in Wells and then begin the return journey back to Mather Jamie offices in Loughborough via an overnight pitstop in Kings Lynn.

The cars have yet to be purchased, but we’ve heard talk of all sorts of makes and models of varying degrees of luxury and reliability – so it should be lots of fun commentating on their progress. Please be sure to follow our LinkedIn company page and connect with the individuals taking part for updates on their travels!

TEAM 1: Rob Cole and Sam Tyler

TEAM 2: Alex Reid, Sam Woodham

TEAM 3: Gary Owens, Gary Kirk and Tim Jones

TEAM 4: Andrew Bamber and Charlie Lallo

Breakdown and recovery support will be provided by Amy Biddell and her dad, Brian Johnstone, who is a qualified mechanic and a dab hand on the tools!

After the challenge has been completed, each team will be tasked with fully valeting their vehicle and trying to sell it for profit which will then be added to the charity fundraising pot.

Good luck to all teams, and special thanks to Paul Chesters for funding the car insurance premiums for each driver.
