As part of our 30th company anniversary celebrations, we have committed to raise £30k for our nominated charities by the end of 2021 and have set up a dedicated fundraising page.

Now that social distancing restrictions are lifting we are going to be planning many events and our directors and staff are setting themselves personal challenges.

So far, we have staff volunteering to run marathons in a week or complete sponsored walks and cycles rides. We will also be taking part in a golf day and are also planning a special event called “Bangers & Cash!” So look out for more news on this soon! And of course, we are sponsoring one of the Rockets on display as part of the Rocket Round Leicester event.

Meanwhile, the feat which Alex Reid, our head of Commercial, has set himself is pretty epic – he’s challenged himself to cycle up and down the equivalent of 13 of the highest peaks and best-known mountains around the world on his mountain bike!

Alex is a keen cyclist and whilst he can’t actually travel to each country, he will be taking advantage of the many ‘high peak’ locations around the East Midlands to complete his challenge.

By July he had ridden 1051 miles and climbed 84,085 feet by completing just over 105 hours of cycling. Whilst Alex might be more accustomed to measuring up the footage of an office space, we are reliably informed by his trusty calculations this means he has cycled the height of the following mountains – which is pretty impressive!

  • Everest
  • Ben Nevis
  • Mount Fuji
  • Snowden
  • Mount Olympus
  • Mont Blanc
  • El Capitan
  • Scafell Pike

By 27 August, he had reached the top of Table Mountain and had climbed 100,899 ft with 54,760 ft. to go. He has just started on K2 (28,251 ft) which just leaves the equivalent of Mont Blanc, Scafell Pike & El Capitan to left cycle!

And so, we are appealing for your help with this challenge, by doing something you can do from the comfort of your armchair.

We simply ask that you make a donation, however small to help us reach our £30k target.  You can read more about the charities we are supporting and how to make a donation on the community page on our website. Alternatively, you can also use this link to donate directly via the Mather Jamie justgiving fundraising page.

As more and more events take shape and are confirmed, we will post more updates about how our fundraising events are progressing.
