Experienced project and operations professional Andy Smith joins Mather Jamie

Experienced project and operations professional Andy Smith has joined Mather Jamie as our business manager.

Andy, who is from Derby, joins the company from consulting engineers Rodgers Leask and prior to that spent 18 years working at Bombardier in various roles including systems integration manager. Andy has a HNC in Business and IT from Buckingham University and holds a level 5 qualification in operational management.

In his new role, Andy will be taking over from Jon Steel who joined the firm on a part time basis back in September 2019 after a 40 year career in banking. Jon is retiring and will be transferring all responsibilities to Andy who will be working full time. The wider remit for the role will include supporting the Board of Directors, maintaining close control of finances and reporting, ensuring all compliance policies and procedures are up to date, managing all procurement, facilities management and supervising the office administration team.

Commenting, Andy Smith said, “Mather Jamie is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2021 and has a fantastic reputation for delivering a high quality director led service. I’m thrilled to be taking over from Jon who has helped the firm further improve and strengthen its risk management, quality control and compliance processes and I look forward to maintaining these standards whilst driving more continuous improvement.”

In passing over the reins, Jon Steel added, “The firm has grown steadily over the last 30 years and having recently appointed four new directors to the management board, it was time to expand the business manager role to a full time basis to ensure that expanding business operations continue to be fully supported and compliant.”

In his spare time Andy enjoys playing football, badminton and regularly arranges “Come Dine With Me” evenings with friends. He has also run three marathons for charities, including two London marathons and is currently learning ballroom dancing so he can dance at a gala ball charity evening in aid of Cancer Research.
