A new retail business specialising in gifts and home accessories has opened in Market Street in Loughborough, creating five new jobs.
The 481 sq ft shop premises has been let by agents Mather Jamie to Two’s Company, which already has branches in Newark and the Cotswolds as well as a wholesale business providing gift ranges for customers such as Harrods and Selfridges.
Mather Jamie commercial director Alex Reid said he was pleased to let 56 Market Street to an expanding retail group bringing new jobs to the town.
He added: “Market Street is a busy pedestrianised location which attracts a good range of both national and local occupiers.
“Market towns like Loughborough benefit from having a variety of quality specialist shops so we’re very pleased to welcome Two’s Company.”
Two’s Company director Caroline Newton noticed 56 Market Street’s potential while in the area visiting her son, who is in the second year of a chemical engineering degree course at Loughborough University.
She said: “I hadn’t previously considered Loughborough as a location for one of our stores but while sitting in a coffee shop in Market Street I couldn’t help but notice how many people visit this part of the town centre.
“The footfall is impressively high and number 56 is surrounded by a good mix of shops, making it the ideal site for our third shop.”
An American business, Two’s Company has been established in the UK for more than 20 years with its wholesale operation based in Bingham near Nottingham.
Caroline added: “We’ve gradually moved into retail in recent years, selling our gifts and home wares directly from our stores.
“Although it’s a challenging time for UK retailers our business tends to hold up well in recession. “During a downturn consumers often put off major buying decisions such as moving house but they instead look to cheer up their homes with stylish yet affordable home wares.
“We also pride ourselves on our ability to offer customers professional advice on their choice of gifts and are looking forward to a busy time in the run up to Christmas.”
